I know that the Gulf coast must be a horrible disaster, and that there is likely more money in clean-up work right now than in anything else, but, golly, isn't ANYBODY doing anything to salvage that wood? I would seem they could at least pile it up in a yard somewhere and mill it later. Terrible waste to send good wood to the dumps. Once again, the problem isn't availability, but rather distribution, I guess.

Mystic Seaport has been able to salvage a substantial quantity of live oak sawn frame stock for a CHARLES W. MORGAN project coming up in 2007. I understand the USS CONSTITUTION's shipkeepers also salvaged some live oak.
